New Forest Landscapes
The New Forest has a variety of landscapes from grazed lawns and rolling heathland to dense woodland and conifer plantations. Each has its own charms.
The open heathland areas of heather, bracken and gorse show yellow, green, purple and brown as the year progresses. On still, damp mornings, mists form in the lower-lying areas. In some of these valleys peat bogs are found where on breezy summer days the white, fluffy heads of cotton grass dance.
